Ever wondered how psilocybin was first discovered by the modern world? Well, the great chemist, Albert Hoffman, isolated psilocybin using Mexicana Magic Mushrooms (Psilocybe Mexicana) and in the process started the counter culture movement of the ‘60s. Of course, Psilocybin Mexicana Shrooms were used during sacred rituals by the indigenous tribes of Mexico long before this. They even have a special name for them – “god’s flesh”.
Mexicana Shrooms are native to Central and South America but can be found growing in many countries spread across different continents. Mexicana’s are generally spear-shaped and have small, bell-shaped light brown caps, and stipes of the same color. They sometimes tend to be confused with their close relatives, the Liberty caps.
Despite their small size, Mexicana Magic Mushrooms are highly potent and it’s for this reason they’re referred to in Mexico as “Pajaritos” meaning “little birds”.
